STONE HARBOR – On July 22 at about 2:06 p.m., Stone Harbor Police Department responded to the area of 99th Street and the beach to assist in a foot pursuit of a male subject.
Michael Martin, 26, of Somers Point was observed going through a couple of purses left unattended on the beach.
Witnesses located the owners of the purses at the waters edge and asked if they knew the subject who was walking away with their belongings.
The victims stated that they didn’t know the individual.
One witness then confronted Martin who then fled the area on foot through three yards and over fences.
The witness eventually lost sight of Martin. The victims also gave chase and told police that they had observed the suspect enter a truck.
Police observed a truck matching the description in the area.
Victims identified the driver as the suspect.
He was subsequently arrested by Detective Shuck and charged with indictable theft of items and cash totaling over $800.
Martin was charged with Third Degree Theft.
