Charity Fund’s Alleged Misuse Brings Charges Against Woman

OCEAN CITY – Ocean City Police Department in cooperation with the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office conducted a theft investigation that included the time period of October 2014 until May 2016. The investigation involved the theft of money from The Betsy Young Memorial Fund, a charitable account.  Taken from this account was $3,666 over the course of the investigation period. The accused, Amanda M. Cimpeanu, 23, a.k.a. Amanda M. Thomas of Ocean City, allegedly withdrew money from the charitable account and used it for personal expenses. Cimpeanu was processed and released on a summons. 
Ocean City Police Department requests that anyone with additional information about the thefts should contact the Ocean City Police Department at (609)399-9111.
The charges and allegations contained in the complaint are merely accusations and the defendant is considered innocent unless and until proven guilty. This report is based on information received from law enforcement.
