Charges Upgraded to Kidnapping for Rio Grande Man

RIO GRANDE — On Jan. 18 at 9:57 p.m., Middle Township Police received a report of a domestic assault, which had taken place in a room at the Off Shore Hotel, 1801 Route 47.
Officers discovered that the victim, a 48 year old female from Rio Grande, had been beaten and strangled by her boyfriend.
The accused, Patrick Kane, 41, of Rio Grande, had fled the scene, but was arrested after a brief search of the area, police said. He was charged with burglary, aggravated assault and criminal restraint and lodged in county jail on $35, 000 Bail.
On Jan. 30, Kane’s criminal restraint charge was upgraded to kidnapping and his bail was set at $135,000.
According to the state Department of Corrections, Kane was previously incarcerated in South Woods State Prison, Bridgeton from December 2008 to September last year on weapons, criminal mischief and trespassing charges.
