VILLAS – Detectives from the Lower Township Police Department conducted a motor vehicle stop in the area of States and Idaho avenues in Villas Feb. 2 at approximately 2:45 p.m., with knowledge of the occupants being wanted for outstanding criminal warrants.
The driver was identified as Douglas Haferl, 26, and the passenger was identified as Sean Stone, 27, both from Villas.
A search incident to arrest was conducted on both subjects and consent to search the vehicle was given by Haferl. These searches revealed a number of narcotics including: heroin, marijuana, suboxone strips and clonazepam pills, in addition to a hypodermic syringe and other drug paraphernalia.
Both Haferl and Stone were arrested on scene and transported to the Lower Township Police Department where they were both processed on numerous criminal charges. The charges included possession of heroin with the intent to distribute, third degree, possession of heroin, third degree, two counts of possession of controlled dangerous substance (suboxone strips and clonazepam pills), also crimes of the third degree.
In addition to the several offenses related to the hypodermic syringe and drug paraphernalia, Haferl was also issued two traffic summonses for operating a motor vehicle while in possession of a controlled dangerous substance (CDS) and operating an uninsured motor vehicle.
At the conclusion of processing, Haferl was released on his own recognizance and Stone was remanded to the Cape May County Correctional Center.
This incident was investigated by detectives from within the Lower Township Police Department’s Detective Division.
