ERMA – During the morning hours of Dec. 18, Lower Township Police Department received a report of a one-car motor vehicle crash in the area of Bayshore Road and Baywood Drive.
Upon arrival, officers discovered that a vehicle operated by Hallie Wheaton, 23, had struck a utility pole and overturned.
Wheaton was found to be trapped inside and was the only occupant in the vehicle. Villas Fire Department responded to the scene and assisted in extracting her from within.
Wheaton was transported to Cape Regional Medical Center due to her injuries. She was issued five motor vehicle summonses for driving while intoxicated, controlled dangerous substance (CDS) in a motor vehicle, reckless driving, failure to maintain lane and operating a motor vehicle without wearing a seat belt.
Additionally, Wheaton was criminally charged with two counts of third degree possession of CDS, for being in possession of prescription medication which was not prescribed to her, along with other drug paraphernalia containing CDS residue. She was issued the aforementioned criminal charges on a criminal complaint summons and was released on her own recognizance.
This incident is still currently under investigation by Patrolman John Armbruster and Patrolman Jason Felsing.
The charges and allegations contained in the complaint are merely accusations and the defendant is considered innocent unless and until proven guilty. This report is based on information received from law enforcement.
