COURT HOUSE – Cape May County Prosecutor Robert L. Taylor announces the arrest of Michael DeLeon, 46, a resident of Oceanside, Calif.
A lengthy investigation conducted by the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office Economic Crimes Unit revealed that DeLeon allegedly stole in excess of $75,000 from the Estate of Elizabeth Warrington between 2007 and 2014. Those funds were entrusted to him for the care and benefit of his sister’s orphaned minor children in Ocean City. DeLeon allegedly abused his Trustee position for his own benefit.
On May 10, detectives from the Prosecutor’s Office obtained an arrest warrant charging DeLeon with second degree theft. DeLeon was taken into custody May 18 by members of the Oceanside, Calif. Police Department and committed to their Vista, Calif. Detention Facility, without bail, awaiting extradition back to Cape May County.
Prosecutor Taylor advises that persons convicted of a second degree crime are subject to a term of imprisonment of 5 to 10 years in New Jersey State Prison.
