SEA ISLE CITY — On Nov. 22, police responded to 4204 Landis Ave. for a reported smell of smoke.
Upon arrival, police observed John McCann carrying a box of files that were on fire, which Patrolman Jon Gansert quickly extinguished.
Anna Mari and Joseph McCann, parents of John and owners of the property, directed Gansert to the attic where the box was discovered burning.
During the course of the investigation, police found Steven Tyman, owner of Jamaican Me Crazy, a business located on the first floor of the property, hiding in the attic.
Tyman, 51, of Northfield, was arrested and charged with aggravated arson and burglary. He was lodged in county jail in lieu of $50,000 cash bail.
The county Prosecutor’s Office assisted in the investigation.
