RIO GRANDE – Middle Township Police Department received a report of counterfeit money being passed at a store located on the 3100 block of Route 9 in Rio Grande Feb. 10.
Middle Township Street Crimes Unit and Lower Township Police Department’s Detective Division developed information on a suspect, and a counterfeit money operation, that had been running out of a motel on the 3100 block of Route 9 in Rio Grande.
During the investigation, the suspect, Jennifer Scott, 36, of Rio Grande, had moved from Rio Grande and was located at a residence in Lower Township. Scott was arrested at the Lower Township residence, and a printer and several hundred dollars in counterfeit money was confiscated.
Scott was charged in Middle Township with three counts of forgery, a third degree crime, for passing counterfeit money. Lower Township charged her with possessing forgery devices, and making counterfeit money, both are third degree crimes. Scott was lodged in Cape May County Correctional Center on $80,000 total bail.
The charges and allegations contained in the complaint are merely accusations and the defendant is considered innocent unless and until proven guilty. This report is based on information received from law enforcement.
