VILLAS – Lower Township Police Department’s Detective Division was conducting surveillance operations Aug. 9 for suspicious and controlled dangerous substance (CDS) related activity in Villas. While conducting the operation, the Detective Division observed a suspected narcotics dealer, Joseph L. Shoestock, 51, of Villas, meet with a vehicle and receive a package. Shoestock then left the area on his motorcycle.
Detectives followed Shoestock and attempted to execute a motor vehicle stop on Bayshore Road in North Cape May. Shoestock refused to stop for detectives and a short pursuit ensued. During the pursuit, Shoestock was observed discarding a small bag in the 600 block Jonathan Hoffman Road. Shortly after discarding the bag, he was stopped and taken into custody without incident.
The bag that Shoestock discarded was recovered and found to contain 317 bags of suspected heroin and one small bag of suspected narcotic pills. A total of $1,215 in cash was seized from Shoestock.
Shoestock was charged on warrants with distribution of heroin, second degree, possession of heroin, third degree, hindering apprehension, third degree, and eluding, second degree. He was charged with numerous motor vehicle summonses for the pursuit and the motorcycle he was operating was impounded.
Judge Thomas Hillegass issued the warrants and set bail at $150,000 full cash. In default of bail Shoestock was transported to the Cape May County Correctional Center.
