AVALON – Avalon Police Chief Jeffrey Christopher said he had officers deliver flyers to residents at the beginning of the summer to remind them to protect themselves against theft.
The Herald reported that, July 12, 2022, four high-end vehicles were stolen from Avalon, with thieves entering unlocked homes while the occupants slept.
The perpetrators, wearing gloves and ski masks, entered homes at least twice between 2 a.m. and 5 a.m., located car keys and made off with the vehicles. Law enforcement speculated that the thieves were part of a statewide auto theft ring.
“I agree it is important to inform the residents, therefore I have already begun having our officers hand–delivering a PSA (public service announcement) flyer to citizens prior to the start of the summer,” Christopher said. “They hand out the flyer every chance they get and have a personal conversation with each person to explain the issues that have been occurring throughout the state regarding auto thefts.”
Avalon police urge residents to lock their vehicles and homes, activate security alarms and video surveillance, and keep valuables locked inside and away from plain view.
