Avalon Police Perform Bait Bicycle Operations; Arrest Five

AVALON- The Avalon Police Department have made five recent arrests of suspects who stole police-owned bicycles in the Borough.
Police have recently conducted three separate bait bicycle operations where a bicycle was placed at 27th Street and Ocean Drive in Avalon. During each operation, police successfully made arrests on charges of Theft of Moveable Property.
Those arrested and charged were:
-Patrick McCusker, 18, of Westfield, NJ on Sunday, August 4th, at 11:38pm by Special Officers Michael Solomon and Joseph Duda.
-Christopher Romo, 23, of Avalon, NJ on Monday, August 5th, at 1:43am by Special Officers Joseph Duda and Scott Beroldi.
-Matthew Marcinek, 28, of Blue Bell, PA and Benjamin Bevan, 21, of Stafford, PA; during two separate incidents over a four-hour period.
Each suspect was charged with Theft of Movable Property on scene and released with a court appearance required.
The Avalon Police Department continues to make an effort to crack down on bicycle thefts within the Borough. They will arrest and charge individuals who take bikes that do not belong to them. The police department reminds residents and visitors that bike thefts are crimes of opportunity and to always lock your bike, or keep it in a secured building when not in use.
