Avalon Police Charge Two Pennsylvania Men With Theft

AVALON– The Avalon Police Department has charged two Pennsylvania men with theft and other offenses following an incident that took place Sunday morning, July 25th.
At approximately 4:00am on Sunday, July 25th, Avalon Special Police Officers Steven Bowers and Robert Morgano spotted two adult males riding bicycles at 33rd Street and First Avenue. One of the two men dropped his bike in the street and ran away from the officers; one man was located a short time later hiding underneath of a deck. Later in the day at 11:25am Avalon Police received information that the two bicycles the men were riding were stolen. Police filed charges against both individuals.
19 year old Daniel J. Reitman of West Chester Pennsylvania was charged with theft, receiving stolen property, and disorderly conduct. 19 year old Phillip A. Heaver, also of West Chester, was charged with theft, receiving stolen property, and creating a nuisance.
The Avalon Police Department continues to crack down on bicycle thefts in the Borough. Police remind residents and visitors that bicycle thefts are crimes of opportunity, and bikes should be locked, or kept in secure buildings when not in use. Avalon Police have begun a free, voluntary bicycle registration program to help identify and recover bicycles that are stolen.
