AVALON – Avalon Police Chief William McCormick has announced the arrest of a 19-year-old man from Berwyn, PA on charges that he drove his vehicle while impaired and caused an accident that resulted in damage to three parked cars and a private residence.
On Tuesday, July 29 at 3:18 a.m., Avalon Police responded to a report of a reckless driver in the vicinity of the 25th Street Bridge. Upon arrival, police found an unoccupied 2009 Jaguar located in the 500 block of 24th Street with severe front end damage. Further investigation revealed that the vehicle struck three parked cars in a private driveway; one of the cars was forced into a support pillar to a second floor deck, while another parked car struck a fence.
Police were able to locate the driver of the suspect vehicle a short time later. He was identified as Thomas E. Curry, 19, a student who lives in Berwyn, PA. Curry was charged with driving under the influence, reckless driving, leaving the scene of an accident, and failure to report an accident. He was later released on his own recognizance.
Avalon Police Sgt. Sean McNair and Patrolman Robert Hampf investigated the incident. The Avalon Volunteer Fire Department responded and assisted at the scene.
The charges and allegations contained in the complaint are merely accusations and the defendant is considered innocent unless and until proven guilty.
