Atlantic, Cape May Superior Court Celebrates Law Day

COURT HOUSE — The Superior Court of New Jersey in Atlantic and Cape May counties will sponsor various events to celebration the 53rd annual Law Day. This year’s theme is “Law in the 21st Century: Enduring Traditions, Emerging Challenges.”
On Tuesday, the Superior Court and the Atlantic County Bar Association planned to honor the Holy Spirit High School Mock Trial team at 4:30 p.m. at the Atlantic County Civil Courts Building, 1201 Bacharach Blvd., Atlantic City.
On April 30, the Superior Court and the Cape May County Bar Association will host Law Day activities at the Cape May County Superior Courthouse, 9 N. Main St., Court House.
Activities include an award ceremony and reception for Lower Cape May County Regional High School, the 2010 Cape May County High School Mock Trial champions; a law fair for the public with information booths staffed by court personnel and agencies and departments of Cape May County government; and information sessions.
The following presentations will be held at the Cape May County Courthouse beginning at 9 a.m.:
● Cyber safety and bullying by the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office
● Seniors, alcohol and Medicare by Cape Assist
● Offenders with developmental disabilities by The Arc of New Jersey/Cape May
● Attorney Jeffery April of the law office of April & Maudsley will speak about presenting small claims cases in court.
A number of county law-related agencies will have displays throughout the courthouse beginning at 10 a.m.
On May 1, court staff will be at the Shore Mall in Egg Harbor Township from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. to provide court information to the public, including how to navigate the Judiciary website and the Atlantic and Cape May counties’ vicinage web pages.
An exhibit of historic photographs and other artifacts will be on display at the Atlantic County Civil Courts Building throughout the month.
On May 13, Judge Mark H. Sandson of the family division will preside over a mock trial with Atlantic City Uptown Complex eighth grade students at the Atlantic County Civil Courts Building. Judge Bernard E. DeLury of the criminal division will preside over a mock trial with sixth grade students from Brigantine Elementary School on May 18 at the school. The Brigantine students won first place in the New Jersey Bar Association’s mock trial competition with their entry, “Double Dose Disorder.”
