The Wildwood Crest Police Department arrested a 21-year-old man for allegedly violating a temporary restraining order that was two hours old and attempting to smother his 19-year-old girlfriend with a pillow.
According a to police report, Amos Goutremont, 21, of Wildwood Crest, had been arrested in North Wildwood for simple assault of his girlfriend and served with a temporary restraining order. Two hours later, he reportedly forced his way into the apartment they shared at 119 E. Fern Road and attempted to smother the victim with a pillow. Police said that he Goutremont threatened to kill her if she screamed for help.
The victim was able to free herself, flee the resident and call police.
When police officers arrived Goutremont answered the door holding a knife and initially refused to comply with Sgt. William Kita and Officer Robert Jaffe. After a brief period, Goutremont surrendered the weapon and was taken into custody without further incident.
Goutremont was lodged in the county correction facility on $50,000 bail. The Wildwood Crest Police Department’s Domestic Violence Task Force Advocate responded to police headquarters to assist the victim.
