Arrest Made in Rite-Aid Robbery

ERMA — On Saturday, 05-01-10, at approximately 1:15 p.m., Lower Township Police Communication
Center received a 9-1-1 call from the Rite Aid Pharmacy located at Bayshore and Breakwater Roads in North Cape May.
The manager of the store reported that the pharmacy had just been robbed by a white male in his 40’s wearing a gray hooded sweat shirt with a white painter’s hat.
The manager reported that the subject approached the cash register with his hand in his sweat shirt pocket, pointed his hand at the manager as if he was holding a firearm and demanded money.
Suspect fled the store with cash that was provided to him by the manager.
Lower Township Patrol Officers immediately responded to the area after being given a description of the suspect. Patrol Officer, Shaun Whittington arrested the suspect at gun point after observing him
walking in the area.
The suspect was identified as Michael E. Haymes, age 45, of the 200 Block of Fishing Creek
Road in Lower Township. No weapon was found on Haymes during his arrest.
He was transported to Lower Township Police Department and charged with one count of
Robbery. Bail was set at $50,000 cash, by Municipal Court Judge, George Neidig. Haymes
was subsequently lodged in the Cape May County Jail in default of bail.
The incident is under investigation by Patrolman Shaun Whittington and the Lower Township
Detective Division.
