Armed Robbery Charge Follows Man’s Arrest

WILDWOOD – Members of the Wildwood Police Department Uniform Patrol Division responded to a report of an armed robbery Sept. 6 at approximately 11:37 a.m. on the 4200 block Pacific Avenue.

During the course of the robbery, the suspect displayed a knife and demanded money from the victim. The suspect was described as a Hispanic male, with facial hair, approximately 6’0″ tall, with a large build, wearing a green-colored tee shirt and dark-colored shorts. The suspect fled the scene prior to police arrival.

Shortly thereafter, an individual matching the physical and clothing description was detained in the 4600 block Pacific Avenue. During the developing investigation the individual was positively identified as the individual responsible for the robbery. The individual was identified as Marquise D. Coleman, 18, of North Cape May. A subsequent search of Coleman resulted in a knife matching the description utilized in the robbery being recovered.

During the follow-up investigation Coleman was charged with armed robbery, a crime of the first degree, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, a crime of the third degree, and possession of a prohibited weapon, a crime of the fourth degree.

Judge Dorothy Garrabrant of the Wildwood Municipal Court set bail at $120,000 cash/bond no ten percent.

Coleman was unable to post bail and incarcerated at the Cape May County Correctional Center.
