Anti-Obama Pamphlets Strewn in Yard

By Jack Fichter

COLD SPRING — A resident the 1100 block of Route 109, called Lower Township police Tuesday, Oct. 14 about 10:30 a.m. after he found leaflets with vulgar language advising him not to vote for Sen. Barrack Obama scattered around his yard and under the Route 109 Bridge.
The resident, who asked not to be identified, had an Obama/Biden for President sign in his front yard.
Police responded and a canvass of the area disclosed the items appeared to have been made on a home computer.
Phrases of the pamphlets included a racial slur, “Obama Sucks,” “Voter Fraud & Obama,” “Obama=More Taxes,” and “Vote Right, Vote White.”
The resident told the Herald he heard the noise of a car door slamming late Monday night. He cleaned up “thousands of the derogatory pamphlets” that had blown under the bridge.
A few remained Thursday morning.
The resident said the Obama sign was still in the yard in the early morning hours but was stolen later in broad daylight.
The county Prosecutor’s Office was advised of the incident and followups with other local jurisdictions showed some criminal mischief involving the use of the same type verbiage. According to a Lower Township police press release, it is uncertain whether these incident are related or a coincidence.
Police are requesting anyone having similar incidents or information regarding this incident to contact the Safe Neighborhood Tip Line at 609-886-1619 ext. 156 or Crime Stoppers at 465-2800. All information may be reported anonymously.
Patrolman Douglas Whitten and Detective Art Mason investigated the case.
