AVALON – Avalon Police Department has charged a Middle Township man with fraudulent use of a credit card after he allegedly utilized a stolen debit card at several local stores.
On Jan. 2, the victim reported to Avalon Police that she had lost her debit card several days prior and that the card had been used for purchases totaling several hundred dollars to purchase various merchandise at the stores. Working with the local businesses and bank security officials, an alert was placed on the card and shortly thereafter the card was scanned while attempting to make an additional purchase. Police located Denis Martinez-Justo, 36, of Court House, in possession of previously purchased items and he was arrested on the third degree charge.
A warrant was authorized by Judge Dorothy Garrabrant; Martinez-Justo was transferred to the Cape May County Correctional Center after failing to post $20,000 cash bail. The matter will be reviewed by the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office. The case was investigated by Patrolman Robert Hampf and Sgt. Sean McNair.
