WILDWOOD – Cape May County Prosecutor Robert L. Taylor and Wildwood Police Chief Robert Regalbuto announce the grand jury indictment of five individuals for a kidnapping that took place in Wildwood Feb. 5.
On Feb. 5, at approximately 9:02 p.m., officers from the Wildwood Police Department responded to the 100 East block Schellenger Avenue for the report of a woman being held against her will at that location. It was subsequently learned that a female victim along with her 1-year-old child were removed from the location and held at a residence in the 100 East block Leaming Avenue in Wildwood.
The female victim and her child were later able to escape her captors and were located with the assistance of the Wildwood Crest Police Department.
The investigation conducted by members of the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office and the Wildwood Police Department led to the arrest of Jennyvon M. Vasquez, 31, from Ewing, N.J., Jason E. Rue, 34, from Ewing, N.J., Jose A. Hernandez, 19, from Wildwood, Jonathan Ortiz, 30 year, from Wildwood, and Kathleen Vasquez, 49, also from Wildwood.
On March 28, the Cape May County grand jury indicted the above individuals on the following charges:
Jennyvon Vasquez:
• Kidnapping (two counts), first degree
• Aggravated assault, second degree
• Burglary, second degree
• Conspiracy to commit burglary, second degree
• Endangering the welfare of a child, second degree
• Theft, third degree
• Possession of a controlled dangerous substance, third degree
• Possession with intent to distribute a controlled dangerous substance, third degree
Rue:
• Kidnapping (two counts), first degree
• Aggravated assault, second degree
• Burglary, second degree
• Conspiracy to commit burglary, second degree
• Endangering the welfare of a child, second degree
• Theft, third degree
• Possession of a controlled danger substance, third degree
• Possession with intent to distribute a controlled dangerous substance, third degree
Hernandez:
• Kidnapping (two counts), first degree
• Aggravated assault, second degree
• Burglary, second degree
• Conspiracy to commit burglary, second degree
• Endangering the welfare of a child, second degree
• Theft, third degree
Kathleen Vasquez:
• Kidnapping (two counts), first degree
• Hindering apprehension, third degree
Ortiz:
• Kidnapping (two counts), first degree
• Hindering apprehension, second degree
• Hindering Apprehension, third degree
Prosecutor Taylor advises that persons convicted of a first degree crime are subject to a term of imprisonment of 10 to 20 years in New Jersey State Prison, persons convicted of a second degree crime are subject to a term of imprisonment of five to 10 years, and persons convicted of a third degree crime are subject to a term of imprisonment of three to five years.
