WOODBINE – Woodbine State Police Station announces the arrests of three subjects for a string of multiple car burglaries dating back to October 2016.
According to a release, since October 2016, multiple car burglaries have occurred in Upper and Dennis townships. Most involved unlocked vehicles in which money, electronics, jewelry, credit cards, and other personal belongings left in the vehicles were taken.
As a result of this ongoing investigation, Woodbine troopers and Criminal Investigation Office detectives were able to develop a suspect using video surveillance. Their investigation led to the arrest of Claudia O’Leary, 20, from North Cape May. She subsequently confessed to 23 car burglaries.
Additional suspects were identified and as a result, Dallas Smith, 20, and Jeremy Horniacek, 19, both from Lower Township, were arrested. Both admitted to their involvement in various car burglaries, 14 for Smith and eight for Horniacek. Suspects were charged for multiple counts of burglary and theft. O’Leary and Smith were processed and released pending court. Horniacek was lodged in the Cape May County Correctional Center on prior offenses.
Information was also learned during the investigation that similar crimes may have been committed by them in area jurisdictions. All information was turned over to area police departments and as a result, multiple charges were levied against O’Leary and Smith by Middle Township Police Department. Police did not say what those charges were.
The charges and allegations contained in the complaint are merely accusations and the defendants are considered innocent unless and until proven guilty. This report is based on information received from law enforcement.
