VILLAS – Detectives from Lower Township Police Department’s Detective Division conducted an investigation Oct. 4 after receiving information from an 11-year-old female about a threat from a clown on her cell phone.
During the investigation, it was learned that the victim received two threats with a photo attached of a clown’s face via text message. It was later learned that the actor, also an 11-year-old female, sent the pictures and threat from her cell phone. The actor was subsequently charged on juvenile complaints with terroristic threats, third degree, and harassment, a disorderly persons offense.
Lower Township Police Department, along with other agencies across the county, are experiencing issues with people either dressing up and lurking about as clowns or posting photos of clowns in a threatening or harassing nature. Depending on the circumstances with these encounters, the activity may be criminal. Lower Township Police encourages any citizen who may come into contact with these types of incidents, where someone’s conduct may be criminal or threatening in nature, to report it to their local police department right away.
