COURT HOUSE – New Jersey State Police reported 13 fatal crash deaths, in Cape May County, in 2019, up from 10 in 2018.
Most of the deaths occurred in the northern sections of the county, with four in Dennis Township and three in Upper Township. The most dangerous road, in 2019, with three fatalities, was Route 9.
The state had 530 fatal crashes in 2019, causing 564 deaths. Four counties had fewer fatalities than Cape May County.
Hunterdon County had the fewest deaths, which moved from three fatalities, in 2018, to six, in 2019. The others with fewer fatal crashes than Cape May County were Salem County, with nine deaths, Warren County, with 10 and Somerset County, with 11.
State Police data shows 54 fatalities occurred on the state’s roads, so far, in 2020. None of those deaths have occurred in Cape May County. Gloucester County leads the state, with seven fatalities.
