COURT HOUSE – June 9: Cape May County’s COVID-19 case count has slowed dramatically in the last week.
Today, the county announced three new cases, all community-based, with one each in Dennis and Middle townships, along with one in Woodbine.
The total case count inched up to 662, with 435 individuals off quarantine, 174 active cases and 53 fatalities since the county’s first reported case March 18.
State numbers also continued to trend well, with 375 new cases for a total count of 164,796 since the first confirmed state case March 4. Gov. Phil Murphy also said that 91 more New Jersey residents succumbed to the coronavirus, bringing the death toll to 12,303.
At his briefing today, Murphy said that New Jersey had one of the lowest rates of transmission in the nation. For every new case, less than one additional case will be infected. It is one of the metrics that bodes well for a reopening of the economy.
Murphy also announced that he was lifting his stay-at-home order issued March 21, along with increasing the size of permissible gatherings, now set at 100 for outdoor gatherings and indoor gatherings limited to 25% of the location’s capacity or 50 persons, whichever is smaller.
