COURT HOUSE – A fatality took place Dec. 19 on Garden State Parkway at milepost 14.5 in a 2:14 a.m. motor vehicle accident. It was the 12th fatal crash recorded in Cape May County this year, as of Dec. 22.
The accident raised to seven the number of motor vehicle accidents with fatalities that occurred in Middle Township in 2014, the highest of any municipality in Cape May County. It was also the only fatality that took place on Garden State Parkway in the county.
Four other fatal accidents that claimed five lives in Middle Township took place on Route 47.
One fatality occurred on Avalon Boulevard.
Upper Township had four fatalities recorded this year within its borders as of Dec. 22. They took place on Route 49, 50 and 9, and one took place on Ocean Drive.
Lower Township had one fatality on Route 9, the first of 2014, at milepost 3.1.
Statewide there have been 536 fatalities in 503 accidents.
The New Jersey State Police note that the statistics are unofficial and subject to change until the associated case is completed by the NJSP Fatal Accident Investigation Unit.
