Cape May Stage officially begins its holiday celebrations at the Robert Shackleton Playhouse, Bank and Lafayette streets on Nov. 28 with award-winning playwright Steve Murray’s “This Wonderful Life,” the visually stunning stage adaptation of the perennially popular holiday film, It’s a Wonderful Life.
Previously seen at the Stage in 2006, this one-man stage adaptation returns by popular demand offering a new theatrical twist on this beloved holiday tale.
The virtuosic Charlie Bethel (The Woman in Black, Seven Poor Travelers, Beowulf, Every Christmas Story Ever Told!) returns to Cape May Stage to portray George Bailey, Clarence the Angel, Mary, Old Man Potter, and 20 more of Bedford Falls’ finest citizens.
Directed by Jim FitzGerald, Bethel recreates more than two-dozen characters from the film while he also serves as a narrator, offering amusing commentary on the action.
Those who have enjoyed Capra’s film can’t forget the image of a man standing alone on a bridge on Christmas Eve…the story of how he got there, and how he found his way back home.
Audience members don’t need to be die-hard fans of the film to enjoy this unique one-man theatrical twist on the heartfelt holiday classic.
Brimming with hope and humor, “This Wonderful Life” reminds us of the power of perspective, friendship, and family, just in time for the holiday season.
Performances are Wednesday through Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 3 p.m. through Dec. 28. Tickets are $35 adults, $25 seniors, and $12.50 students.
During the current run Cape May Stage is participating with several Cape May gourmet restaurants in money-saving “Dinner & A Show” package promotions. Call 609-884-1341 for tickets and information or visit the theatre’s Web site, capemaystage.com.
