Cape May Police Participate in Project Medicine Drop

By Press Release

CAPE MAY – Cape May Police Department, in cooperation with the New Jersey Office of the Attorney General, Division of Consumer Affairs, is proud to announce the participation in Project Medicine Drop.
Project Medicine Drop is an important component of the New Jersey Attorney General’s effort to stop the diversion and abuse of prescription drugs, including highly addictive opiate painkillers, according to a release.
“We have participated in the DEA initiative – Drug Take Back program- twice a year but the Project Medicine Drop affords our residents the opportunity to get rid of unwanted medications at anytime that is convenient for them,” stated Chief Anthony Marino. “Along with the permanent secured box we have a portable drop box that the department can use to visit civic groups and organizations at their request; it is a service we are pleased to provide.”
Through this initiative, the state Division of Consumer Affairs installs secure ‘prescription drug drop boxes’ at police departments, sheriff’s offices and State Police barracks across New Jersey, allowing citizens to safely dispose of their unused, excess or expired prescription medications.
Member of the public are invited to visit the Project Medicine Drop site locally at 643 Washington Street, Cape May in the police department lobby and drop off any unused prescription medications anonymously and with no questions asked. The project Medicine Drop site at 643 Washington Street will be available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year.
The Division of Consumer Affairs and Cape May Police Department feel that by providing New Jersey residents a safe and secure method to dispose of unneeded medications, Project Medicine Drop helps prevent the abuse of these drugs. This initiative also protects New Jersey’s environment by keeping these drugs out of landfills and the water supply.
Anyone wishing to learn more about the program can visit the Project Medicine Drop webpage at www.NJConsumerAffairs,gov/meddrop. This page also has the full list of all Medicine Drop locations available.
