Cape May County Road Maintenance Scheduled

COURT HOUSE — Next week, South State, Inc. of Bridgeton, NJ, the contractor on the Cape May County’s 2017 Maintenance Paving Contract, plans to mill and pave portions of Seashore Road (County Road No. 626) and Academy Road (CR639) in the Cold Spring section of Lower Township and Bayshore Road (County Road No. 603) in Del Haven section of Middle Township. Construction work hours are typically from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. There will be localized road closures and detouring of traffic during working hours. Local traffic will be permitted.
The paving is expected to begin at 6am Monday August 14th at the intersection of Seashore Road and Townbank Road. In order to pave Seashore Road from Sandman Boulevard to Cold Spring Village, Seashore Road will be closed to traffic. Northbound traffic on Seashore Road will be detour west on Sandman Boulevard to north on Shunpike Road and then east on Tabernacle Road. Once the northbound paving is completed on Seashore Road between the Cold Spring Cemetery and the Cold Spring Village Entrance, southbound traffic on Seashore Road will be detour west onto Academy Road, south onto Shunpike Road and then east on Sandman Boulevard. Townbank Road will be closed at Shunpike Road and traffic will follow the detour signage in place for Seashore Road. Directional construction signs (black lettering on an orange background) will be installed along the route to properly direct motorists.
If all goes well with Seashore Road on Monday, work will begin on Academy Road at am on Tuesday August 15th from Seashore Road westward for approximately 1,200 feet. Westbound traffic on Academy Road will be detoured south on Seashore Road to west on Townbank Road and then north on Shunpike Road. Similarly, eastbound traffic on Academy Road will be detoured south onto Shunpike Road to east on Townbank Road and then north on Seashore Road. Directional construction signs will be installed along the detour route to properly direct motorists.
It is anticipated that work on Bayshore Road from Miami Avenue in the Villas to Geneva Avenue in Del Haven will begin at 6am on Wednesday August 16th. This work is expect to take at least two (2) days or more to complete. Southbound Bayshore Road traffic will be detoured daily to south on NJ Route 47 to westbound Fulling Mill Road. Northbound traffic on Bayshore Road will be maintained during construction.
All roadways will be open each night after construction working hours, however motorists are cautioned that there will be times when there is no centerline striping. Temporary pavement markers will be placed to delineate the centerline. Motorists are advised to avoid the work areas, and if not, to use caution when traveling through the construction zones.
Variable message signs advising motorists of the pending paving work will be placed prior to and during the work operations. This schedule is subject to change and is dependent upon having good weather.
This work is part of the County’s $2,180,000 construction contract awarded by the Cape May County Board of Chosen Freeholders to South State, Inc. on May 23, 2017 The milling and paving operations are being overseen by Gibson Associates, P.A., Ocean View, NJ.
