COURT HOUSE – After reporting 16 new COVID-19 cases the day before, Cape May County on April 3 listed just 4 new positive tests of the virus, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 53. All 4 were individuals located in Lower Township. There was no change to the total of 13 county individuals listed as recovered leaving the number of active cases now at 40.
Cape May County remains one of only two counties in the state to report no deaths attributed to the virus.
The new cases in the county are a 56-year-old male, a 56-year-old female, a 59-year-old female and a 26-year-old male.
The Department of Health (DOH) continues to encourage home isolation and social distancing.  DOH also advises residents to refrain from using medical masks needed by healthcare workers. The Centers for Disease Control yesterday recommended the use of cloth-based masks in public settings. The non-medical masks are not intended to replace social distancing guidelines; rather they potentially offer a layer of added protection against the transmission of the virus by asymptomatic individuals.
