Cape May Co. Population Is Oldest in Garden State

COURT HOUSE – Feeling old? It may not just be you. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, based on median age, counties in New Jersey with the highest median age as of July 1, 2014 included Cape May, with 48.6, followed by Hunterdon at 45.5 and Sussex at 43.9.
According to a release, “This means that half the population was older than this age and half younger.”
Counties closer to the Fountain of Youth, or at least with the lowest median age, included Hudson at 34.8, Passaic at 36.7 and Cumberland and Essex, both with 37.
Nationally, non-Hispanic, single-race whites was the largest group in 2014 at 197.9 million. Hispanics were next, with a population of 55.4 million, followed by blacks at 45.7 million. Asians, 20.3 million, American Indians and Alaska Natives, 6.5 million and Native Hawaiians and other Pacific Islanders, 1.5 million.
In New Jersey, the populations of each group were:
Non-Hispanic single race whites, 5,081,261
Race alone or in combination groups:
Blacks, 1,427,225
Asians, 911,675
American Indians and Alaska Natives, 99,129
Native Hawaiians and other Pacific Islanders, 18,169
Hispanics, 1,729,172
