There is so much news to share this week, I think it’s safe to say that Cape May has officially awakened from its winter slumber and the busy season is officially here.

As I mentioned last week, the Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts (MAC) and the Chamber of Commerce of Greater Cape May are in the midst of Spring Festival, which runs through Sunday.
Saturday brings two opportunities to take a look inside some of our town’s most exquisite homes, with the Private Homes Tour from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. followed by the Cape May Style House Tour from 1 to 4 p.m.

Another fun Spring Festival event is the popular Murder Mystery Dinner, which include a delicious three-course meal at Aleathea’s accompanied by an intriguing mystery.
There are many more events planned for the last few days of the festival, but I simply don’t have space to share them all here.

At noon on Saturday, the Nature Center offers another way to celebrate the season with their “Trails, Pails and Ponds” excursion.
You’ll take dip nets and buckets to a local pond, where you’ll meet frogs, tadpoles, dragonfly nymphs, and other wetland critters.
Be sure to wear boots and long pants. Meet at the Nature Center, 1600 Delaware Ave., and then carpool to the site. Call 898-8848 for more information.

Mark your calendars, because the First Presbyterian Church of Cape May, Columbia and Decatur streets, is hosting a tailgate sale from 8 a.m. to noon on May 13 (with a rain date of May 20).
All proceeds will benefit the church, so don’t forget to check it out!

On Saturday the First Presbyterian Church is also hosting the gospel concert I’ve already mentioned here.
It’s at the theater at Lower Township High School at 7 p.m., and all proceeds support the church’s community programs.

The East Lynne Theater Company is sponsoring a day trip to Peddler’s Village on May 9.
The village is just four miles from New Hope, Pennsylvania, and it includes 75 shops and restaurants.
The bus will pick up passengers at the Bayshore Acme parking lot at 8 a.m. and the Cape May Court House Acme parking lot at 8:20 a.m.
The trip includes lunch, and the bus will leave Peddler’s Village at 4 p.m.
Cost is $55, and all proceeds benefit East Lynne’s 2006 season. Call 884-5898 to reserve your seat on the bus.

In upcoming news, MAC’s 17th Annual Cape May Music Festival is fast approaching.
This year it begins on May 20 and runs through June 18, and as always, there is an eclectic mix of performers sure to please every listener.
The Prodigals are the rocking Irish band set to open the festival; other highlights include world-class violinist Hilary Hahn soloing with the Bay-Atlantic Symphony, the New York Chamber Ensemble’s all-Mozart program, the New Jersey-based jazz band the Denis DeBlasio Quartet, and much more.
