Cape May 3.1.2006

By Rick Racela

March is upon us, and if we are very lucky it will come in and out like a lamb.
Soon spring will be here, and I know I can’t wait to see the bulbs sprouting again.
It is also going to be April 15 before we know it!
Although I usually write exclusively about Cape Island in this space, I thought the following information was too important to leave out for those of you who are elderly and low income:
AARP provides free tax counseling at the Main Branch of the Cape May County Library from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Tuesday from now through April 11.
They will help you complete your 2005 Tax Return so you won’t have to worry about it.
This weekend Sherlock Holmes returns to Cape May to solve the mystery of the Star of Arabia.
The weekend is filled with activities, but one of the most fun is the Search for Clues Tour, which is on Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m.
You get a clues sheet and set out through town to solve the mystery, visiting about eight beautiful houses along the way.
Those who complete the clues sheet are eligible to win valuable prizes, and it’s a great way to get out of the house and have a little adventure.
Tickets cost $15 for adults and $7.50 for children and can be purchased at the Washington Street Mall Information Booth on the day of the event.
For advance reservations call 884-5404.
The East Lynne Theater joins in on Sherlock Holmes Weekend with a presentation of “Sherlock Holmes’ Adventure of the Copper Beeches” at 8 p.m. this Friday and Saturday.
The performances are at The First Presbyterian Church of Cape May, 500 Hughes Street.
Tickets are $20 for general admission, $18 for seniors and people with disabilities and
their support companions, and $8 for students.
Anyone age 18 and under is free.
For information and reservations, call 884-5898.
The NJ State Film Festival is hosting its annual Oscar Party on Sunday.
There will be a wine bar featuring celebrities’ favorite wines presented by Gallo.
Have your fortune read, enjoy delicious food and wine, and watch the Oscars on wide screen TVs.
There are prizes for the ballot contest, too.
Cost is $65 per person or $120 per couple.
Call 884-6700 for information about the location and other details.
That’s all the news for this week.
Do you know about any St. Patrick’s Day events on Cape Island?
If so, please be sure to tell me about them right away, as I need two week’s notice to include them in this column.
It is very easy to get your event printed here.
Just leave me a voicemail at 898-8825 or send an email to
