And the lack of traffic is certainly nice, too!
Still, summer will come; it never fails.
It isn’t too early to start dreaming of those lazy summer days, or to start worrying about how to keep your kids occupied when they are out of school!
Luckily, the Cape May Recreation Department runs a Monday through Friday day camp from June 26 through Aug. 18.
The camp is for kids ages four through 12, and the curriculum includes crafts, drama, tennis, science and nature, gymnastics, swimming, beach days, field trips, sports, games, kids theater, special events, music and dance, special assemblies, a parents’ day picnic and more.
Now is the perfect time to register by calling 884-9565, so you can breathe easy when school lets out.

The Garden Club of Cape May is meeting at 10 a.m. on Tuesday at the Cape Island Baptist Church.
They will have a brief business meeting followed by a program presented by Judy Ballinger with the help of all the club members.
They are going to make “Hearts and Flowers Collages” using mementoes brought in from each home.
Judy will demonstrate how to use these with flowers to create something beautiful.
Ms. Ballinger is a local artist/teacher, who has joined the staff of the Center for Community Arts.
All gardeners are welcome. Parking available on Stockton Place.

It’s time for that wonderful annual community gathering, Cape May Cooks, Cape May Sings, sponsored by the Center for Community Arts and the Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts.
This year’s event is on Sunday at the West Cape May Fire Hall, 732 Broadway.
Plan to meet someone new and share what you love about Cape Island.
Priscilla McQueen will lead the old fashioned sing-along following the potluck supper and socializing that together create a warm, fuzzy feeling inside while it’s chilly outside.
The price of admission is the covered dish of your choice to share.

The Nature Center is hosting a seed-starting party on Saturday at 11 a.m.
You’ll learn about the basics of plant propagation and seed saving during this hands-on, how-to workshop.
Leave with a flat of flower or vegetable seeds ready for your windowsill.
Cost of the workshop includes a supplies fee for everything you will need to start a successful garden (containers, planting medium, and seeds). Bring your own favorites to share or swap.
Cost is $12 for members and $16 for non-members.
