COURT HOUSE—It isn’t often that you see someone at a young age have a hand in such a charitable moment, but one young man decided that for his birthday this year, he would be giving a little back.
Quinn Maguire, of Clermont, decided that he wanted to have a pirate-themed birthday party at the Cape May County Park and Zoo. But instead of receiving toys from all of his friends, he asked that they bring donation money to give to the zoo instead. Friends and family all came to the park in order to celebrate his special day.
The bright idea came to Maguire when he was recently visiting the zoo and fell in love with it. When he got home, he said to his grandmother, Vivian Salasovic, that he would like to have his birthday party there, and instead of gifts he would like the money to be donated to the zoo.
Salasovic stated that when she was talking to her grandson, “The entire thing was his idea.” In regards to how the idea came to his mind, she said “when Quinn visited the zoo for the first time, he loved the snow leopard so much. Then he mentioned having the party here.” Salasovic then pointed out that he is similar to every other 7-year-old that is out there; he just wants to play and have fun.
Over 20 of Maguire’s friends attended the party. Midway through the party, Ed Runyon, the current supervisor of the Cape May County Park and Zoo stopped by. Runyon came to thank Maguire for all of his efforts and wished him a very happy birthday. Overall, this charitable effort earned Cape May County Park and Zoo over $100.
