WOODBINE – The Herald received reports of an “explosion-like” sound heard in the areas of Woodbine, Eldora, Belleplain and Upper, Dennis and Middle townships between 8-9 p.m. Feb. 16.
“It sounded like a bomb went off outside my window and everyone around said the same thing,” stated Joe Watson in a Facebook message to the Herald.
New Jersey State Police Woodbine Station reported they “received some calls, but have no information as to what the cause might have been,” according to Lt. Doug Pearson, Woodbine station commander.
Public Affairs Officer Connie Hempel of Naval Air Station Patuxent River, Md. confirmed a 177th Fighter Wing out of New Jersey Air National Guard was out in the area around 8 p.m. Feb. 16. Naval Air Station Patuxent River, Md. did not have anything out there at that time.
