The Cape May County Historical & Genealogical Society announces the publication of “Early Architecture of Cape May County” by architectural historian Joan Berkey.
This book represents nearly a decade of research into the heavy timber frame buildings found in the county.
These buildings, also known as post and beam structures, date from ca. 1691. The book covers Cape May County buildings dating from the 1690s to 1800.
The hardcover book is 352 pages long with more than 240 illustrations and has a 32-page, full-color insert loaded with color photographs.
The book is available at the Cape May County Museum’s gift shop, Historic Cold Spring Village, the Atlantic Heritage Center in Somers Point, Christina’s in Stone Harbor, the Paper Peddler in Avalon, Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts, The Whale’s Tale in Cape May, and Border’s Book Store in Mays Landing.
The museum, located at 504 Route 9 North in Cape May Court House, will host a book signing with Berkey on Sunday, July 27 from 1 to 3 p.m.
Books will be available for purchase at the Museum Gift Shop. The public is invited to attend and discover another aspect of Cape May County history.
