Bomb Threat Closes Part of Ocean City Boardwalk

Police Lights 1

By Press Release

OCEAN CITY – Ocean City Police Department received a call of a “bomb threat” targeting 944 Boardwalk (Curly Fries) May 24 at approximately 4:45 p.m. The caller sounded like a younger male, who was attempting to disguise his voice using a Middle Eastern accent.
Members of the Ocean City Police Department, Ocean City Fire and Rescue Department and Cape May County Sheriff’s Department’s K-9 Unit responded to the scene. As a precaution, Boardwalk stores from 9th to 10th Street were evacuated and the area was cordoned off to all foot traffic and bystanders.  Merchants and patrons on the Boardwalk were very understanding and the evacuations were executed quickly and without incident.
Cape May County Sheriff’s Department’s K-9 Unit responded with an Explosive Detection K-9 and thoroughly checked the area, specifically Curly Fries, with their K-9. No explosives were located and nothing suspicious that would indicate a credible threat was found. All businesses were back to normal operation and the 900 block of the Boardwalk reopened at 6:10 p.m.
Anyone with any information regarding this incident is encouraged to contact Ocean City Police Department at (609)399-9111.
