“Shadows and Light,” two contrasting sides of one of the greatest composers of the symphonic form—Johannes Brahms—will be explored at the Bay-Atlantic Symphony’s next concerts on Saturday and Sunday March 28 and 29.
Saturday’s performance takes place at 8 p.m., at the Frank Guaracini, Jr. Fine and Performing Arts Center, Cumberland County College, Sherman Avenue and College Drive, Vineland.
Sunday’s will be at 4 p.m., at the Richard Stockton College Performing Arts Center, Jimmie Leeds Road, Galloway Township.
The concerts, conducted by Music Director Jed Gaylin, will feature Brahms’ Piano Concerto No. 1 in D minor, Op. 15, with the dynamic pianist Marian Hahn from the staff of the Peabody Conservatory as soloist, and the composer’s Symphony No. 2 in D major, Op. 73.
The bluster, anguish, and passion of the concerto contrast with the contentment and ebullience of the symphony.
Both Bay-Atlantic Symphony performances will be preceded one hour prior to starting time with a “Pre-Concert Conversation with the Maestro.”
Tickets for the Guaracini Fine and Performing Arts Center performance are $30 for adults, $26 for those age 55 and over, $15 for students, and $8 for children, and may be ordered by calling the box office at 856-692-8499.
Tickets for the Stockton College Performing Arts Center performance are $40 ($35 for senior citizens) for orchestra level seats, $30 ($25 for senior citizens) for mezzanine level seats, and $15 for children (with an adult ticket), and may be ordered by calling the box office at 609-652-9000.
