Avalon Free Public Library Recognized by Food Pantry

By Herald Staff

AVALON — The Avalon Free Public Library (AFPL) was awarded a Certificate of Appreciation by the Holy Redeemer Food Pantry for acting as a donation collection point for the service.
Since January of 2009, library patrons have placed donations of non-perishable goods in baskets located in the library’s lobby. AFPL Director, Norman Gluckman, commented, “I am impressed by the generosity of Avalon Library patrons in helping families in need.”
The certificate was presented to Gluckman by Jane Thompson, Food Pantry coordinator. According to Thompson, the Food Pantry served over 8,645 people in 2009; an increase of 41 percent from 2008.
“We cannot thank the Avalon Library and its patrons enough for continually helping us to help others in need. We are deeply touched by their willingness to share so generously in these difficult and unsure economic times,” said Thompson.
Donations of non-perishable goods can be placed in the collection baskets in the lobby of the library, Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., or dropped off at the food pantry on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 9 a.m. to noon.
The food pantry is located behind the Holy Redeemer Rehabilitation Center, 1801 Route 9 North, Court House and can be reached by calling 609-463-6027.
The library is located at 235 32nd St. and provides free and open access to first class collections, services and programs that inspire, inform and enrich the community.
