AVALON – The Avalon Police Department has charged six underage individuals with attempting to gain access to a local bar and restaurant July 11. This effort was made possible by Avalon’s participation in the annual “Cops in Shops” program which is under the auspices of the New Jersey Division of Alcoholic Beverage Control.
“Avalon Police were able to prohibit the entry by underage patrons to a local establishment courtesy of this very important program”, said Avalon Police Chief William McCormick. “Cops in Shops is an extremely effective program that requires funding from the Division of Highway Traffic Safety and cooperation from local establishments that do business in communities”.
The Avalon Police Department received authorization from the Princeton Bar in Avalon to conduct a Cops in Shops enforcement program July 11. The detail consists of undercover police officers going into the establishment and enforcing violations for individuals who misrepresent their age to gain entry to purchase alcohol, and for those of legal age to purchase alcohol for minors. Six arrests occurred by the Avalon Police Department over the course of four hours. The individuals charged were:
Kevin Walker, 18, Lambertville, MD
Torben Ginsberg, 18, Baltimore, MD
Peter McIntyre, 18, Baltimore, MD
Ty Hollens, 19, West Hartford, CT
Gregory Rudman, 18, Short Hills, NJ
Connor Quinn, 20, Blue Bell, PA
All of the individuals were charged with Misrepresenting Age to Gain Entry. They were processed on a summons and released on the scene. Avalon Police Detective Matthew Sykes and Sergeant Sean McNair participated in this investigation. Avalon Police participate every summer in the Cops in Shops program.
