WOODBINE – A motor vehicle accident in Washington Township took the life of Michael Williams, 26, of Woodbine, according to South Jersey Times.
The accident occurred Aug. 8 around 12:49 a.m.
Williams was traveling northbound on Delsea Drive between County House and Salina roads when a driver of a Nissan Maxima crossed the center lane while traveling south and struck Williams’ vehicle head-on, Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office told South Jersey Times.
Two other people were in William’s car at the time of the crash, including Williams’ 4-year-old son and Marcus Owens, 24, of Millville. Both suffered injuries and were taken to Cooper Medical Center in Camden.
The driver of the Nissan Maxima, James Catona, 27, of Washington Township was also sent to Cooper Medical Center, along with a passenger who was in his vehicle.
Catona has been charged with vehicular homicide, two counts of assault by auto and one count of hindering apprehension.
Bail for Catona was set at $150,000 cash.
Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office told South Jersey Times they believe alcohol was involved.
The crash is currently under investigation by the Washington Township Police Department and the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office.
The charges and allegations contained in the complaint are merely accusations and the defendant is considered innocent unless and until proven guilty.
