WILDWOOD – The Wildwood Police Department was dispatched to the 300 block of West Rio Grande Avenue May 24, at about 9:50 p.m., for the report of a motor vehicle collision there.
According to a release, officers located a 56-year-old female from Villas, lying injured in the roadway. The female victim was treated by Wildwood Rescue before being airlifted to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center in Atlantic City due to the extent of her injuries.
Witness statements revealed that the victim was stopped in traffic while traveling east on Rio Grande Avenue when her vehicle was struck from behind by a white sports car.
As the victim left her vehicle after the collision, a verbal altercation ensued between the two drivers. During that dispute, the driver of the sports car attempted to drive from the scene.
In an effort to prevent the sports car from leaving, the victim placed herself in front of the vehicle. The driver of the sports car proceeded slowly for several feet, pushing the victim backwards, before quickly accelerating.
The victim was ultimately pulled under the sports car and run over by at least one of the vehicle’s tires as the sports car fled the scene.
During the investigation conducted by the Wildwood Police Department Detective Division, a white Dodge Challenger registered to Dalton Storms, 21, of Franklinville, was alleged to be the sports car involved in this incident. Detectives responded to Franklinville, where the vehicle was located and seized at Storms’ residence.
A court-authorized search warrant executed on the vehicle by the Wildwood Police Department Detective Division and the New Jersey State Police Crime Scene Investigation Unit yielded evidence pertaining to the case.
Additional evidence obtained during the course of the investigation ultimately alleged that Storms was the driver of the white Dodge Challenger at the time the victim was struck.
As a result, Storms was charged with aggravated assault, leaving the scene of an accident resulting in serious bodily injury, endangering an injured victim, and violating a law intended to protect public health and safety.
As of June 2, when the release was issued, Storms’ location was unknown and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
The female victim sustained multiple injuries and was released from the hospital.
