CAPE MAY, N.J. – The Coast Guard medevaced an 80-year-old woman Monday from a cruise ship 56 miles off the coast here.
The Coast Guard received a call at approximately 11 p.m. from the captain of the Carnival Miracle requesting the woman be medevaced.
The captain was unsure of the condition of the woman but reported he thought she was suffering from a heart attack or stroke.
A Coast Guard rescue boat crew from Station Cape May was launched with one nurse and one emergency medical technician to assist in the transport of the woman.
They arrived on-scene in the Delaware Bay so the rescue crew could perform a boat-to-boat transport in calmer seas.
he woman was transported to Coast Guard Station Cape May unconscious and on a ventilator and taken to Cape Regional Hospital in Cape May Courthouse, N.J., by emergency medical personnel.
