Woman Arrested for DWI After Hitting Vehicle into Mobile Home

EDGEWOOD- On August 11 at 3:29 pm, Middle Township Police received a report of a motor vehicle crash in the area of the Edgewood Mobile Home Park. Upon the arrival of Officers, it was learned that a vehicle driven by Heather Yerk, 34 of Rio Grande, had left the roadway, struck a tree, then another vehicle which was occupied by Donald Thomson,67. Mr. Thompson’s vehicle was pushed forward into his residence in Edgewood Mobile Home Park, causing structural damage to the home.
As a result of the investigation, Yerk was subsequently arrested for driving while intoxicated, endangering the welfare of a child and assault by auto. She was also issued numerous motor vehicle summons. Donald Thompson was transported to Cape Regional Medical Center originally and then flown to Atlantic City Medical Center for trauma sustained as a result of the crash. A child passenger that was in Yerk’s vehicle was also transported to Cape Regional Medical Center for evaluation of minor injuries, and released to the custody of a relative.
The investigation is being conducted by Patrolman Brian Murphy and assisted by Patrolman Julio Ruiz of the Patrol Division. Detective Jack Trombetta of the Major Crimes Unit also assisted the investigation. Rio Grande Volunteer Fire Company and Middle Township EMS also provided support at the scene.
