RIO GRANDE — Traffic on Route 47 was closed in both directions during the early morning hours of Tue., July 31 after a one-car automobile accident left live wires on the roadway.
According to Middle Township police the accident occurred at 12:40 a.m. in the northbound lanes of the highway near milepost 4.8. The driver of vehicle, Rebecca Benezet, 23, of Del Haven, lost control of her vehicle when she fell asleep at the wheel. The black, 1997 Ford Explorer then left the road and crashed into a utility pole.
Traffic on Route 47 was closed in both directions from Railroad Avenue to Fulling Mill Road to allow repair of the downed wires.
Benezet, who was not injured in the accident, was issued a ticket for careless driving.
