In New Jersey there are an average 150 pedestrian fatalities a year. To help combat this problem, New Jersey recently enacted a change to the pedestrian law. Whereas, a driver has to come to a complete stop when approaching a pedestrian in a crosswalk, whether the crosswalk is marked or unmarked. This change to the law went into effect April 1, 2010. Middle Township Police would like to remind pedestrians that they are required to cross the street at a crosswalk.
