RIO GRANDE– On Thursday at 5:41 p.m. Middle Township police responded to a motorcycle crash on Route 47 at New York Avenue. Upon arrival of officers it was reported by several witnesses that the motorcyclist, who was traveling North on Route 47, crashed into a Chevy Tahoe that was making a left turn onto New York Avenue.
The driver of the Tahoe was identified as Carl Roth, 30 from the Erma area. The motorcyclist was identified as Nelson Viera, 44 of Woodbine. Due to a head injury, Viera was transported to the Rio Grande Municipal Sports Complex where he was met by an awaiting NJSP South Star MedEvac.
Viera was airlifted to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center in Atlantic City where he is reportedly in stable condition.
Assisting with the incident was the Rio Grande Volunteer Fire Department, Rio Grande Rescue Squad and Paramedics from Atlantic Care.
Charges are pending an investigation by Cpl Francis Fiore of the Middle Township Police Patrol Division.
