UPDATE: Villas Man Charged With DWI in Route 47 Crash

RIO GRANDE– A two vehicle crash brought Route 47 traffic to a stand still Friday evening at 6:51 p.m.
Middle Township EMS units responded to the scene with the Rio Grande fire department and Middle Township police.
Police said when officers arrived they found a white pickup truck driven by John Marsden, of Rio Grande, in a yard on the South side of Route 47 about 300 feet East of Fulling Mill Road.
There was a green Saturn SL2 with heavy front end damage located in a ditch on the North side of the road. The driver identified as Felipe Nieves, 41, of the Villas had to be extricated from the car with the Jaws-of-Life, police said.
Police said their preliminary investigation indicates that Marsden , was traveling West on Route 47. Nieves, was traveling East on Route 47 and crossed the double yellow line striking the white pickup truck head on.
Marsden was not injured and refused any medical treatment.
Nieves was transported to a nearby field on South Railroad Ave., where he was flown by South Star medevac to Atlanticare Medical Center City Division for head, neck and internal injuries.
Nieves was charged with Driving While Intoxicated, according to police.
Police said Route 47 was shut down for about one hour.
The crash remains under investigation by Cpl. James Dougherty.
