ERMA – On Thursday June 3 at approximately 4:40 pm Lower Township Police, Fire and Rescue units responded to a two car motor vehicle accident in the townships Erma section at the intersection of Route 9 and Carol Avenue.
Investigation on scene determined that a Chevy blazer being operated by a Deborah Alexander, age 38 of the 200 block of Roseanne Avenue in North Cape May, was proceeding north bound on state highway Route 9 when a PT cruiser being operated by a Damien Williams, age 25 of the 100 block of Evergreen Avenue in the Villas, proceeding south bound on Route 9 crossed over the double yellow line into Alexander’s lane and struck her vehicle.
The impact caused William’s vehicle to leave the roadway and catapult into a telephone pole snapping the pole in half. The vehicle then continued to cross the front lawn of a residence and impact a fence where it came to rest.
Alexander’s vehicle swerved to the right and came to a stop on the front lawn of a residence just past Carol Avenue where wires from the damaged telephone pole landed on her vehicle.
Police, Rescue and Erma Fire Fighters were unable to remove Alexander from her vehicle until the Atlantic City Electric Company cut power to the damaged telephone pole.
Approximately 500 customers in parts of Rio Grande, Lower Township, Cape May and Cape May Point were without power for several hours until the pole was repaired.
Both Williams and Alexander were transported by the Lower Township Rescue Squad to Cape Regional Medical Center for injuries sustained in the motor vehicle accident.
The accident is currently under investigation by Patrol Officer Jennifer Anzelone and Sgt. Martin Biersbach.
