UPDATE: The 17-year-old male driver succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead in the early evening on Dec. 4, according to Lower Township Police Department. The cause of the accident is still being investigated by the Lower Township Police Department.
VILLAS – Lower Township Police Department were notified of a single-vehicle motor vehicle crash Dec. 3 at approximately 8:35 p.m. that had just occurred on Fulling Mill Road in Villas.
The initial report alleged the vehicle may possibly be overturned with an entrapment of an occupant.
Lower Township police officers responded to the scene where they came into contact with a black 1995 two-door Nissan 200 SX that had struck a tree head on. The sole occupant of the vehicle was the driver, a 17-year-old male, who resides in Villas.
Scene investigation revealed that the above vehicle was heading eastbound when it crossed the center line continuing into the oncoming lane. It then left the roadway left on the north side of Fulling Mill Road where it sideswiped a tree and then came to a final resting point when it hit a second tree head on and was not turned over.
The driver sustained serious injuries and was unconscious when officers, Lower Township Rescue, and Villas Fire Department personnel arrived on scene. Immediate lifesaving measures were taken and a Medivac helicopter was requested to transport the driver to AtlanticCare Regional Medical Center for further treatment and he is listed in critical condition.
The circumstances surrounding the cause of the accident is still being investigated by Patrolman Eric Coombs and Patrolman Eric Danze.
